How to convert part of a colour image to mono

Make colourful objects stand out by holding back colour in selected areas of your photos to create black and white conversions with extra punch

Sometimes you'll shoot a colourful subject such as a flower but be disappointed by the end result when you get your camera home and copy the images to your computer. Even the most vibrant flower can be lost against a distracting background. By getting creative with colour, we can remove it from the background to make the maroon of the flower really stand out and give the image an artistic feel. Find out how it's done here in just 5 minutes.

Ort - welcome to the world of colour management. This is not a simple thing. The reason why your printer renders purple instead of true monochrome is probably because of either or both of the following:

1) Your printer/paper profile is wrong
2) Your printer is not capable of printing absolute blacks or whites, possibly not even if it is set to monochrome or greyscale printing.

I'm not going to start on more detailed explanations otherwise I'll be here all day. Sorry.
