A cracking, really interesting image, with superb consideration for lighting, composition and post-production.

I do really like this shot. A lot has gone into the conception, design and making way before the shot was taken. The shot is very very cool. Top marks from me.

Love the framing - very similar to the underpass I walk through on the way home from the PhotoPlus office. Use of lighting is awesome - strong silhouette with backlit rain. Tell us more about the Entropy series....

It was taken in an underpass directly beneath where the separate roads of spaghetti junction in Aston, Birmingham converge. The photo 'Rise' was also from the same shoot that day and both sat in my un-developed folder for a while before I decided on a series of shots based around a central theme.

I came upon the idea of 'entropy' while working on an album cover for folk band Fola, for their 'Goodnight Soldier' EP (for which 'Rise' forms the conceptual apogee).

The music had lots of examples of the highs and lows of the human condition, gritty realism that I wanted to reflect in a series of ambiguous imagery. It's a work in progress that is taking a while to evolve (thanks partly to the demanding day-job), but which I have big plans for. I don't particularly want to rush it, just to have a complete series, but to ensure that there is a narrative that means something to everyone. With Fall and Rise it's not just about good and evil, life and death, it's about serendipity, moments of self-loathing and epiphanies. A full gamut of human response. Hence the time to think about what each means and then translate it into an image.

Next on the list is 'Toil', for which there is already a healthy (or unhealthy, depending upon how you view it) amount of experimentation. 'Rise' has been revisited a few times, made more complete and defined, and I think the same will become of 'Fall', so I will post the results here for you to view!

Many thanks everyone for the great comments.

It's so refreshing to see an unusual picture like this. Beautiful work, really love the idea and thanks for giving us a bit of background information on the shot.

Can't wait to see more!

Love the shot and I love the fact that you have taken the time to add a comment to detail the background behind its conception. Inspiring!
