What the judges were looking for
Pictures entered in this category should seek to reveal the essence of contemporary Britain and Britishness. Get under the skin of British culture and take a fresh look at the familiar. Document the British at work and at play. Please note that you don't have to be a resident UK photographer to enter pictures in this category.

Winner
Fuel Girls - Al Overdrive, UK
"The Fuel Girls were hired to be the entertainment and compères for a private party celebrating the first anniversary of the opening of a local tattoo studio. This is what happened! The shot shows the fun side of British nightlife; a nice change from the usual horror stories of binge drinking and violence."
Nikon D700 with Nikkor 20-35mm f/2.8 D lens at 20mm; ISO 200; 1/200 sec at f/9

2nd Place
Bank Holiday - Tim Wallace, UK
"I saw this group of people while walking with my daughter on the pier in Whitby. I wasn't intending to take any pictures at the time, but realised that in many ways this group showed just what a typical British bank holiday can feel like, with the weather and such like. I'm a big advocate of street photography - I think it's a dying art."
Nikon D3 with Nikkor AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G lens; ISO 200; 1/8 sec at f/11

3rd Place
Wednesday Night Kissing - Maciej Dakowicz, UK
"The Glamorgan County Council Staff Club, a traditional pub in Cardiff city centre. It shut down in October 2007."
Canon EOS 5D with Canon EF 35mm f/2 lens; ISO 1600; 1/30 sec at f/2
