Flying from Minnesota to London in December would be a wonderful Christmas present along with being acknowledged by the competition "Photographer of the Year"....I will keep my fingers crossed!

Like everybody else I'm very anxious to know the final 50. As one other member said it is quite an achievement to be asked to submit a high resolution image so I'm reall chuffed to get this far too.

Not too bothered about the money, i will be happy enough knowing my image was shortlisted, even published. It is not all about the money, more the recognition of being a creative photographer.

Let's be honest - we're all chasing that 10,000 - and the fame!!!

I'd buy my dream camera - a Nikon D3s - and treat all the friends who have stood by me over the last year or so... maybe a trip to New York!

Anyone know how many hi-res photos the Team asked to be uploaded for their consideration? It would be nice that out of the 100,000 entered, one was 1 of 'x' that made it to Stage 2, even if that was as far as one got!

I have to say I've seen some awsome photography that I never thought possible, POTY gives you a look through a portal into a new dimention of planet Earth. Wonderfull, everyone.

I was asked to submit high-res images of 5 of my entries. Hopefully at least one makes it through. Just wish they'd tell us though...

You are a very sweet community. Isn't anybody else ANGRY with these people for stringing us out like this? They were supposed to have made an announcement today - this doesn't reflect well on their judgements, does it? Unless, of course, they select one of mine as a winner, in which case they are lovely people and all is forgiven.

Aren't we... we think we've got it wrong somewhere but secretly we don't want to upset them...personally I think it's a pretty poor show "how British" Watching folk from around the world and it's different time zones commenting here has been painful...there goes my votes!

I don't understand. Shouldn't there be an announcement at least stating somthing like "Hey, we're running a little late with the selections, but we'll have them posted soon." ? ... or something.

I agree with you drfreezo, they should at least do that.

I understand that sometimes deadlines aren't met, but there should at least be some sort of communication going on. I'm guessing that I didn't break the top 50, as I've never been asked for a higher resolution version of any of my photos. So, this isn't about me. I just think that if you're going to announce that the top 50 will be posted on a certain date, then if that deadline isn't met, an announcement should be made as to when the update will take place. I'm just curious as to what the top 50 photos are. This contest started some time ago, so I'm guessing I'm not the only one that would like some closure.

I'm from small Asian country....try my luck amoung worldwide professional here.

Guess all over the world judges are sleeping. Epson Fotoflock (India) was also supposed to announce their POTY results yesterday but they havent announced it yet. :(

What is everyone's photographic background? Are you a pro?, is it a hobby, student? I am a photography student, just finished the national diploma, looking to do a degree next year.

What an amazing bunch of patient people photographer are !! Must be all the time we spend behind the camera waiting for the light or the model !! Did n't they tell you about the mentality test what is also part of the Poty? They want to be sure we are strong enough to carry the fame of being in the top 50 ;-)

I think we must all assume now that we are not in the top 50. Unless the whole judging panel have been hit by swine flu, I believe they have strict competition rules and would have to abide by them. Looking at some of the other entries, there are some unbelievable entries and lets be honest no-one know how many high resolution images they requested - could be 100, could be a 1000. I also think that any possible candidates for the short-listings would have already been notifed so its best to just get on with the weekend, which incidently in England is quite dreadry and heavy rain today and aim for Poty 210.

Cirro you could be right it actually happened with the PX3 awards all the high res pix were on one HD with only a few days left to have them printed for the exhibition and it gasped its last breath, you can imagine the resulting panic.

I agree with Matt above. They have already notified the top 50 - that must be what they mean by making the announcement on October 23. It would be helpful in that case if one of the notified posted a comment here and let everyone know - anonymously if necessary. There are some amazing entries in this competition but I don't think it is sour grapes to say that the organisers have not treated their participants with the courtesy they deserve. They should have responded to all this traffic by now. I have reservations about their voting system too: would there be any point in getting 100 people to vote for your shot, for example? I had two or three votes for the shots for which hi-res versions were requested, so the number of votes I attracted didn't mean anything to the judges, and who has the time or inclination to check all the entries in any case? So the voting system is a waste of time and can arouse false hopes and vanity. Having said all this, of course, I want to win as much as anybody.

Last Year my pic was voted only two times
and at the end i achieved the second place in B&W category
so...HOPE for All

good luck to everyone. its not easy to look though all the images and pick a few. i am sure the judges is having hard time selecting..their eyes must be tired. win or not every year i join cause i get to see all the wonderful pictures and it get me to go out and take some snaps.

I bet they made the decision yesterday and started celebrating.....one thing led to another and now they all have a hangover :P

I'm starting to think maybe we wont find out until the commended and winners images are revealed.

I don't think the number of votes you had for your images makes any difference. I entered 5 days before the end of the contest. None of my photographs had votes yet they still asked me to upload 3 high-res. I am thinking they havent even decided yet because they would have come along here and posted. I think it might be Monday now?

Why bother with your readers? Why bother looking at all the comments and queries and responding in a timely manner to anything that needs attention? It might be a fancy new site, but the non-commital of the 'team' has carried over. Another poor show from Future!! It may be the 'biggest photography competition' in the world, but the organisation of it leaves a lot to be desired. I bet by the time I take a petabyte worth of images there will still be no news! Not a case of sour grapes, just a case of pushing for better COMMUNICATION!!

I E-Mailed Amy Davies earlier today. In her reply (below) she doesn't say whether the short-listed entrants have been notified; so I then asked her if the server problems had prevented this, but so far have not had a further response.

"Hi Rod,
I'm not directly involved with POTY mysellf but I believe there was a problem with the server yesterday meaning there's been a delay to the announcement. Hopefully it should go out on Monday.

now i work for a tiny wee company in the highlands of scotland and the nature of the work means I have 24/7 technical support for our server, the biggest digital photography competition in the world can't get there servers sorted and presumably can't be bothered informing the folk who have taken the time to enter and provide them with images for there magazine!!! Come on....Starting to rant again, better go and lie down in a dark room...

we'll just have to be more patient, sigh aaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Amy Davies, bless her, has just E-Mailed me that as she's now at home she can't say whether any of the shortlisted entrants have been notified, but will let me know on Monday if there are going to be any more delays!
My guess is that by now a shortlisted entrant who'd been notified would have posted something here to this effect - wouldn't you say?
