Pentax Optio I-10: retro, SLR shaped compact camera

Housed in a lightweight, compact body, the I-10 is designed with the look and feel of a traditional film SLR

Pentax have announced the Optio I-10, a brand new digital compact camera, housed in a retro, film SLR type design and packed with a host of features.

Pentax Optio i10 Pearl White

Along with the new (old) design, the Optio I-10 features a new generation of Face Detection AF and AE function, which is capable of instantly and accurately detecting up to 32 faces in the image field, catching them in sharp focus and in optimum exposure.

Popular functions such as the Small Face filter, programmed to detect the faces of cats and dogs, will automatically capture the moment a pet’s face turns towards the camera, making pet portraits easy.

An optical 5x zoom covers focal lengths from 5.1mm to 25.5 mm (equivalent in the 35mm format to approximately 28mm wide angle to 140mm telephoto). The Intelligent Zoom function allows for tighter zooming on the subject, using this the zoom range can be extended to approximately 31.3 times.

12.1 effective megapixels make up the image resolution, while the PENTAX developed high-performance imaging engine ensure high image quality.

Triple anti-shake protection is featured, including CCD-shift-type SR mechanism, High-Sensitivity anti-shake mode and Movie SR mode. High definition proportion movies can be recorded at a rate of 30fps, while in camera editing functions such as still image extraction and title images addition are also available.

Creative digital filters include not only traditional Sepia and Monochrome, but also Toy Camera, Soft Filters and Starburst amongst others are available.

The Optio I-1O will be available from February 2010, in both black and white, with a suggested retail price of £199.99. For more information, and to read a full specification, visit the Pentax website.

Nice (old) design, and i think the price is just right.

The appearance looks interesting, but I wonder if the camera has a rear view finder as well as that useless LCD screen? that would be good if it had, but I doubt it.

I have the old 110 SLR which this resembles and which I still use from time to time. This, of course, is not an SLR but I think I want one...
