New tough Panasonic hybrid compact

Lumix DMC FT2 is waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof and dustproof

Panasonic have announced a new ultra tough hybrid compact camera, the FT2. Packed with a range of features, the camera is pitched at action photographers.

Panasonic Lumix FT2

Users of the FT2 can take the camera swimming, thanks to rubber padding and reinforced glass and carbon resins within the camera. An airtight body lets photographers operate the FT2 underwater to a depth of upto 10 metres – it can even be used in seawater, without the need for additional underwater housing.

Also drop-proof from a height of up to 2 metres, the camera is reinforced with shock-resistant material and uses folded optics to prevent the lens unit from damaging if dropped during operation. The dustproof design shuts out any airborne dust particles that can lead to malfunction. For snow and winter photographers, the camera is freezeproof upto -10 degrees Celsius.

The FT2 is capable of recording high definition movies in AVCHD Lite, along with Dolby Digital Creator to record high quality audio. Intelligent auto, Optical Stabiliser, and Intelligent Exposure are also available in the camera.

A high speed, high performance Venus Engine HD has been included for quick image processing.

The FT2 will be available from mid-March, price to be confirmed. For more information and to view a full specification, visit the Panasonic website.
