New Sony hybrid digital camera to rival micro four-thirds
PMA 2010: Sony showcases mock-ups of new camera, plus new digital SLRs and lenses at photo industry trade show
A new ultra-compact Sony hybrid camera with interchangeable lenses and APS-C size sensor has been shown at PMA. Currently still in development, the as-yet unnamed camera will be a rival to micro four-thirds cameras such as the Panasonic GF1 and Olympus PEN.
Exhibited for the first time at PMA, the Photo Marketing Association’s annual show currently being held in California, Sony's new hybrid camera also features a newly-developed Exmor APS-C HD CMOS sensor. Along with this, it will support HD video recording using the efficient and high quality AVCHD format. A selection of compatible interchangeable lenses were also on display at the show alongside the camera.
The EVIL (Electronic Viewfinder Interchangle Lens) camera is proving popular this year, as Samsung's recent NX10 launch at CES proved in January. This camera will likely be found somewhere between the Olympus PEN/Panasonic GF-1 with their compact bodies and the NX10 which has a larger sensor.
Sony also confirmed that its current range of alpha digital SLRs will continue to grow throughout the year, using the newly developed CMOS sensor and integrating HD video. A successor to the Alpha a700 was also unveiled at PMA, a mid-range camera body aimed at “prosumers” and enthusiasts.
New lenses, including an advanced pre-production model of a Distagon T* 24mm f/2 ZA SSM Carl Zeiss wide angle lens and a mock up of the newest ‘G’ lens, a bright, high-power Super Telephoto 500mm f/4 G lens scheduled for launch in 2010 can also be seen at the show.
Further information about the new launches will become available throughout the year, for more information on Sony products, visit the Sony website.

I don't think Sony will carry this off as well as Olympus did. Olympus has had the technology and know how to do it. For a long time they worked on making dlsrs smaller and they're the best at it. I would love to see you do a comparative test and see which is the winner of the test. I'm sure the Pen is the best out there.
