New PaintShop Photo Pro X3 image editing software available
Updates to the photo editing program include quicker workflow, easier to use functions and faster speed.
Corel have launched the latest version of their photo editing software, PaintShop Photo Pro X3. Responding to customer research, a number of key improvements have been made to the functionality of the program.
An all-new organiser allows photographers to tag, rate, add location and do minor edits to photos quickly and easily. Selecting and viewing images in a number of different ways is also possible through the organiser. RAW images can also be converted to other formats for quick posting, photo-sharing or printing.
Multi-photo adjustments have been made possible with the function to save the editing you’d like to do and apply it across several pictures. Smart Carver allows for seamless and realistic removal of objects and scaling without distorting images.
The Express Lab brings the most useful tools together in one place for quick access. These include Colour Balance, Local Tone Mapping, Contrast/Brightness, Sharpen and One Step Noise Removal.
Camera RAW lab, supporting more than 350 RAW formats is designed for easy adjustment of a variety of settings including white balance, exposure, brightness and saturation before processing.
The Object Extractor can precisely mask fine image details that might be otherwise difficult to preserve, such as fly away hair, wisps of smoke and tree branches, while the Project Creator is a one stop tool to create, edit and share projects such as photobooks and collages.
Enhanced features include HDR photo merge, Local Tone Mapping, Curves and, Perspective Correction and Curves and Levels adjustments.
Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3 is available at the suggested retail price of £79 for the full version, or £59 for the upgrade. To purchase an electronic copy, try a full feature 30 day trial and to find out more information, visit the Corel website.

I downloaded a trial version from Corel but one thing that did bug me a little was the 'Browse for image' had gone. You have to use the organiser which was a LOT slower than the Browser to start up and so slowing me down a lot.
I reverted back to my old version as I did not think the changes were worth the money

Does it use IPTC for storage of the tags, and EXIF for the location? In other words, is it proprietory like it used to be and why I went away from it, or is it open so that other programs have a chance of using hte information once inserted?

I tried the trial version as well, there seems to be an issue with the organiser on my PC running Windows 7 it seem to take about 10 mins for the application to become responsive.
Either the RAW editor has an issue or it isn't very good as RAW photos take on my 7D looked terrible and any amount of tweking didn't seem to get them to look anywhere near how they looked in Elements and Digital Photo Professional without any tweaks.
Elements for me still has the edge, even the new object extractor seemed to be nothing special, it is sad because Paint SHop pro was getting there but the last few versions sice being taken over by Corel don't seem to offer a great deal more.
