New Olympus range of compacts

30x superzoom and 2 brand new Tough cameras complete line-up

Olympus have announced the latest in their range of superzoom cameras, the SP-800UZ equipped with a large 30x optical zoom. Also released are 2 new TOUGH branded cameras.

Olympus SP800UZ

Announced on the same day as Fuji’s 30x optical zoom bridge camera, the SP-800UZ also features a 14 Megapixel sensor, a 3 inch wide LCD screen in 16:9 format, HD movie and HDMI technology along with 2GB internal memory and SD slot.

A sister camera, the SP-600UZ, loaded with a 15x optical zoom, 12 Megapixels, 2.7inch LCD and 1GB internal memory and SD slot, has also been released.

A new PhotoSurfing tool, available on both cameras, allows for people (using face recognition technology), places (using GPS) and events to be tagged automatically.

AF tracking allows the cameras to follow a moving subject, while i-Auto identifies your shooting environment, automatically adjusting the camera’s settings.

Also released today are 2 new TOUGH branded cameras. The Tough-8010 and Tough-6020 are waterproof up to 10m, shockproof up to 2m, crushproof to 100kg, scratchproof, and freezeproof up to -10°C.

5x optical zoom, dual image stabilisation, HD movie recording, 14 Megapixel sensors, photo-surfing and up to 2GB of internal memory are also included.

All of the new cameras will be available from March, for more detailed specification information, visit the Olympus website
