National Media Museum bursary prizes
Fourth programme of awards for photographic projects announced in conjunction with Photoworks and other sponsors, with £20,000 total fund.
Following the success of the inaugural scheme in 2007, the National Media Museum has announced its latest award scheme for photographic projects. Working in conjunction with 5 sponsors and Photoworks, the Awards granted will again be up to a sum of £20,000.
Part of the Museum's ongoing commitment to contemporary photography in promoting the work of emerging and mid-career photographers, the bursaries are intended to assist talented photographers with the production of ongoing projects or a new body of work, and provide support for them to develop and enhance their practice and profile.
Last year, 5 photographers shared the £20,000 fund allowing them to develop their art in a number of ways, from attending national portfolio review panels to completing major bodies of work. Additionally, works by the winning photographers were exhibited at the James Hyman Gallery in London.
This year, the awards remit have been extended to mid-career photographers. Photoworks, the UK's leading agency for photography, has also come on board as Awards partner.
To be in with a chance of receiving the award, applicants must provide a brief written synopsis of their proposal together with their CV, an example of their work and an application form. Applications from all nationalities are welcomed, providing they are resident in the UK at the time of the award.
Projects must be completed within 1 year of awards being made, and successful applicants are expected to work independently, but will receive support from the Museum, Photoworks and Wilson Centre for Photography staff if needed. At the completion of the project, successful applicants must donate one work from an edition, or a series of works, to the National Media Museum.
For further information, conditions and application forms applicants should visit the National Media Museum website. The closing date for applications is 1 October 2010.
