Liverpool People exhibition
Stephen Shakeshaft show until January
An exhibition featuring the work of Stephen Shakeshaft featuring a variety of Liverpool portraits ranging from local personalities to celebrities has opened in Liverpool’s National Conservation Centre.
Over 70 images, some of which are previously unpublished, make up this exhibition, with photographs ranging from the 1960s to the present day. Former picture editor of the Liverpool Daily Post & Echo, Stephen Shakeshaft took most of the images during quiet periods away from his job as a news reporter and feature everyday scenes.
Shopping, street scenes, market scenes and children playing are just some of the subjects Shakeshaft captured in the images, along with celebrities such as Cilla Black, Liverpool manager Bill Shankly, jazz singer George Melly and MP Bessie Braddock.
Political scenes such as the then Prime Minister Harold Wilson speaking in smoke-filled room, protesters staging an anti-racism demonstration and workers in a closing Meccano factory also make up the show.
The exhibition is open every day between 10am and 5pm and runs until January 24 2010 at the National Conservation Centre in Liverpool. More information can be found on the centre’s website.
