Enter Inge Morath Foundation award 2010

$5,000 to be awarded to female documentary photographer under 30

Now in its 7th year, the Inge Morath Foundation prize is awarded by a jury of Magnum Photographers to a female documentary photographer aged 30 or under in order to support the completion of a long-term project.

Barefoot Cactus by Emily Schiffer

Inge Morath, an Austrian born photographer, was associated with Magnum for almost 50 years. After her death in 2002, the foundation was set up to manage Morath’s estate and facilitate the study and appreciation of her contribution to photography.

Much of Morath’s work centred around the encouragement of female photographers, so her colleagues at Magnum Photos, established the award in her honour. Past winners of the Inge Morath award include Emily Schiffer (US, 2009 – see image above) for Cheyenne River, Kathryn Cook (US, 2008) for Memory Denied; Turkey and the Armenian Genocide and Olivia Arthur (UK, 2007) for The Middle Distance.

To enter the award, photographers should send a PDF document with subfolders containing individual images to accompany the PDF on a CD to the Inge Morath Foundation. To be eligible, photographers must  be aged under 30 by the submission deadline of April 30, 2010.

For more information, including further details on how to enter the competition, visit the Inge Morath Foundation website.
