Canon produces 50 millionth EF lens
EOS system manufacturer celebrates milestone
Canon have announced that the 50 millionth EF lens, designed to be used by the EOS system of D-SLR cameras, has been produced. Over 10 million have produced in the last 2 years alone, demonstrating the popularity of the D-SLR market.
The landmark production was achieved during the manufacture of the EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM.
The first camera in the EOS system, the EOS 650 was released in 1987, with many new technologies emerging since then including the first Ultrasonic Motor for professional sports and wildlife photographers.
Recent developments include 2009’s revealing of the world’s first lens with Hybrid IS, the EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM. In 2010, a new high quality telephoto zoom lens (the EF 70-120mm f/2.8L II IS USM) was released for all kinds of professional level photography.
